ST MARY’S LENT COURSE – 2025
“WHEN YOU PRAY”
You know prayer is important but still find it challenging. Perhaps it’s hard to find time, or you’re unsure what to do when you pray. Or maybe you feel discouraged by your weaknesses and your inability to overcome them.
If you have any of these feelings, you are not alone. Many of the saints struggled in prayer. They were like us. But each time they fell, they got up again and learned to rely more on God’s grace.
What God did in the lives of countless saints, he wants to do in our lives. And that’s what this study is about: the journey of prayer God wants to take us on.
Authored and presented by Dr Edward Sri, When You Pray also features Fr. Jacques Philippe, Fr. Josh Johnson, Fr. Gregory Pine, Sister Josephine Garrett, Fr. Donald Haggerty, and Sister Maris Stella.
Course begins Monday 3rd March at 7:30pm in the small hall and will continue every Monday until Monday 7thApril. Each session is an hour.
Make it one of your Lent commitments for 2025.
MONDAY MORNING “BINGO:”
The “Bingo twins” – Mark & Christopher – host Bingo in the small hall every Monday after the 10am Mass. There is always a cup of tea and a slice of cake and the company of others. All very welcome.
COME AND SEE THE FILM “ROMERO” PG 13
Made in 1989, Romero is about…..“Archbishop Oscar Romero (Raul Julia) who is reluctant to get involved in a war that rages on between the military elite and guerrilla Marxists in his country of El Salvador. As conditions worsen and more churches are desecrated, however, he finds he cannot remain an observer. So, Romero resorts to what he knows best: making speeches. The tenets he preaches are simply freedom and justice, but even so, he is seen as dangerous by the government and they are ready to retaliate.” TUESDAY at 7:30pm in the Small Hall. Please bring popcorn. Tea and Coffee provided.
THIS WEEKEND WE PRAY FOR RACIAL JUSTICE:
“Our Father who are in heaven,Creator of all the races in your worldHallowed by Thy name,Praised and beloved by all your people of whatever colour and race.Thy Kingdom come,Where racial justice prevails and all are welcomeWithout favour or discrimination.Thy will be done on earth as it is in heavenWhere we will strive to live as sisters and brothers bound together as your children.Give us this dayA day of enlightenment when we recognise all peoples are equal in your sightOur daily breadTo share with our neighbours of whatever colour, race or creed.Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against usForgive the wrong of the colonial past, the oppression of slavery and the ongoing racism hidden in ourselves and our communities.Lead us not into temptationOf pride and denial of truth,But deliver us from the evilOf racism which divides communities and destroys lives. As Christian men and women, we pledge our active commitment to seek racial justice and equity for everyone both individually and institutionally.
For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory,Which will transform us all for ever and ever,Amen.”
