A SERVICE OF HEALING AND HOPE

On 10th May at 2.30pm, Cardinal Vincent Nichols will lead a Service of Healing and Hope at Westminster Cathedral. This is an open service to which all are welcome as a sign of solidarity, care and hope for those who have been impacted by abuse, as well as those who work with or support them. A poster is in the porch and outside too.

Before the service all are welcome to join in a creative workshop from 10am in the Cathedral Hall, run by LOUDFence, to make materials which will be used in the service. If you plan on attending, please bring a packed lunch.

REMEMBERING SREBRENICA

The UK’s Srebrenica Memorial Day, on 11th July, seeks to draw attention and prayers for those who died in the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995, 30 years ago. It is an important anniversary for those concerned and you might like to keep it in your prayers. This date is also the Feast of St Benedict, the Patron of Europe. May this great Feast and the Memorial Day be a source of hope, encouragement, and above all peace for all the people of Europe.

THE ANNUAL DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

As previously announced the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will be led by Cardinal Nichols and take place from 25th July to 1st August using the Sanctuary’s theme for the Jubilee Year ‘With Mary, Pilgrims of Hope’. Registration is now open with options to travel by plane or train. Volunteer nurses are needed urgently as are youth volunteers aged 16 to 18, and there are many volunteering opportunities for those wishing to serve. Parish and school groups to Lourdes are very much encouraged to join to make the event truly diocesan. Contact Elizabeth Uwalaka in the Pilgrimage Office at elizabethuwalaka@rcdow.org.uk or 020 7798 9173. Please note that all applications to join this year’s pilgrimage need to be submitted by Wednesday 30th April at the latest.

BLESSED CARLOS ACUTIS

Carlo Acutis (born in Fulham), often referred to as "God's influencer," is set to be canonized as the Catholic Church's first millennial saint on April 27, 2025. The canonization will take place during the Jubilee of Teenagers in St. Peter's Square, Vatican City. Acutis, who passed away at the age of 15 due to leukaemia, was known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his innovative use of technology to spread the faith. His sainthood is marked by two miracles attributed to his intercession. This event is expected to draw many pilgrims and young Catholics to celebrate his remarkable life and contributions.

NEW TO ST MARY’S?

Are you new here? We're delighted to have you join our vibrant community. You’ll find a registration card at the back of the church—please fill it in to help us get to know you better.

Our parish is home to two wonderful schools: Bishop Douglass High School and Our Lady of Lourdes Primary. We also have two church halls available for hire, perfect for events and gatherings. Above all, we pride ourselves on being a warm and welcoming community with a social conscience.

Oh, and keep an eye out for Otto the barky dog, our friendly yet formidable "head of security." He’ll charm you in no time—but we’ll let you discover that for yourself.

We’re so glad you’re here! Let us know how we can support you.
