We also pray for: Gino Tomei, James Meally, Hugh Daniel Doherty, Peter Sartori, Noel Ryan, Donato Merola, Aurora Lobo–Buckland, Elizabeth O’Sullivan, Christine Pavlou, Tom Lohan, Siobhan Lynch,  Dennis Lennane, Susan Wren, Geraldine Day, Catherine Kelly, Josephine Okuyiga, Erlinda McAviney, Betty Murray, William Comey, Jane Ikwueke, Monica O’Donnell, Ronald Kinsella and Eamonn Clifford whose anniversaries occur at this time or have died recently. May they Rest in Peace.

Offertory:

The offertory collection for last weekend was £1083:68. Many thanks. Please do not forget, that arranging a standing order is the easiest way to support St Mary’s.

Eucharistic Minsters & Readers:

Fr Peter writes: “First of all, thank you for your kind and diligent service to St Mary’s and your support of me. To help renew our formation I have organised an afternoon of reflection and a chance to ask questions from 2pm – 5pm on Sunday 4th September at The Passage in Victoria. We can enjoy an informal tea together. As part of our reflection, we will be able to visit the Cathedral and view the relics of St Bernadette.

A “sign-up sheet” is now at the back of the church.

The Relics of St Bernadette:

Fr Peter writes: “I would like to organise a parish trip to Westminster Cathedral to visit the relics of St Bernadette on Saturday 3rd September. As you know St Bernadette was the young Pyrenean French shepherdess who had visions of Our Lady in 1854. Her relics are on a worldwide tour and will be at the Cathedral for one weekend. We will have to use the Tube to reach Victoria. We will gather at 10am at East Finchley Tube. You may like to bring a packed lunch or buy some provisions on the way. A sign-up sheet is now at the back of the church.”

The Song of Bernadette:

Fr Peter writes: “The Song of Bernadette” is a classic film which depicts the life of St Bernadette. The actors are American (and do not disguise their accents), the film is in black and white but it is a well-respected interpretation of Bernadette’s life. I will show it towards the end of August in the small blue hall and will open the box office next week.  The film is suitable for all ages. Please bring your own refreshments.

Sing a New Song!

Helen (our wonderful organist) has written three songs in honour of Blessed Carlo Acutis. They need singing (and recording on video). A first practice will be on Tuesday 26th July at 2pm in the church – followed by cake! All ages welcome.

St Mary’s Allotment Opportunity:

Fr Peter writes “Directly behind the church is a raised strip of land which is crying out for cultivation. It would make an ideal allotment, possibly two. It has good light and water is accessible via a handy tap on the wall. A very kind parishioner is offering a grant of £300 to buy compost, fertilizer, seeds and other utensils to get the project started. It would be wonderful if at least half the vegetables grown were contributed to the foodbank. If anyone with experience, or someone who wants an outdoor challenge and interest would like to take on the project, or be involved, please see me. Stop Press – so far 6 of you have volunteered – we meet early September to begin.”

  City of London clocks

Do you know how many clocks are around the City of London? The Aysanew Kassa Trust are raising funds for their work supporting the education of the children of Azezo, Ethiopia and are offering a fun afternoon on Saturday 17th September walking the streets of the City to find the clocks! So, a great exercise after your holidays. You will be met in Fleet Street [you can start anytime between 11.30am and 12.30]and given your pictures of clocks and off you go with your instructions. We will then meet at a hostelry between 3pm and 4pm. The winner will be awarded a prize. Each adult participating will pay a donation to the charity of £30. For more information and to book a place contact Jean Bailey 07484889062 or Pietro Servini 07706608742 website aysanew.org

Thank you:

Fr Peter writes: “Thank you to the amazing volunteers who de-cluttered and helped sort out the parish centre. Due to their hard work we can use August to re-site the Foodbank within the Challoner Room, freeing up the large hall. All kitchens have been thoroughly “de-cluttered”, crockery and cutlery have been sorted and a cleaning cupboard established to house hoovers and brushes. The next task is to order a dish washer for the large kitchen and get the bottle coolers repaired. Once again, a big thank you to the “De- Clutterers”.

Fr Peter writes “Thank you to Dr Bridie and Michael for their presentations. Both have provided me with copies of their slides (or explanation of pictures). I will arrange for Deacon Patrick and Dr Bridie to return in September or October.”
