Altar Servers

Rather important…, would you like to be an Altar Server? Not only would you be helping Fr Peter but most importantly you would be serving the Risen Lord. What better service could you do? If you want to be an Altar Server and have made your First Holy Communion please get your parents to sign your name to the “sign up” sheet at the back of the church.

Eucharistic Ministers

There will be a meeting for all Eucharistic Ministers  (new & old) in St Mary’s Church on Thursday 18th July at 7:30pm.

Appeal for a Three Bedroom House to Rent

If anyone knows of a 3-bedroom house which is available to be rent, can you let Fr Peter know.

The Newsletter:

The newsletter will go on its summer holidays during August. If you have any “scoops” or winning lottery numbers there is only a couple of weekends to submit them for publication.

THURSDAY’S MEETING FOR EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS WILL BE DEFFERED TO SEPTEMBER – Thank you!

Fr Peter writes:

“Some new ideas for September & October

Birthday’s: As I have got older I have realised the precious gift of each year and we start our own “new year” with a birthday. Therefore, at the start of each month and at the end of Sunday’s 10am and 12noon mass I will give a blessing to those celebrating a birthday in that calendar month. Do not worry, it will be nothing embarrassing and is purely optional, but I hope it will be a moment of grace as you begin your new year.

Sunday’s 12 noon Mass: I think we can do some singing! Nothing too difficult, but it would be good to sing some of the Mass acclamations. I have been practising, and while I am no Pavarotti, I hope you will be able to follow my lead.

Rolling Back Time: My own confession… I am guilty of starting Mass late. Most times I am dealing with something or trying to resolve or answer a question. Over the summer I will start to “roll back time”, and begin Mass nearer the time it is expected to start. However, I will still give notices at the end of Mass (certain parish events will always need to be highlighted) and therefore please do not leave Mass before the final blessing.

Having a Parish Retreat: Any time for reflection and instruction is good. I am going to put the parish into “retreat” from Sunday 6th – Sunday 13th October. I have already asked a number of priests to help and so far, Canon Robert Plourde, Canon Mehall Lowry, Fr Patrick Van Der Voorst and Fr Howard James have agreed. It will be a week when we build some collective prayer and instruction into our daily routine. I would be grateful if you could mark this time in your diaries as a special week and I will provide more details and a timetable in September.

Back to School Mass:

There will be a special 10am Mass on Sunday 8th September for children and young adults starting new schools or year groups or colleges. Please bring something new that you will use in your school or college.

The Parish Council:

Grateful thanks to the parish council who have started some welcome initiatives within the parish. So far, they have started a Youth Group and arranged for the opening of the church outside of Mass times. Lin Farley is the Chair, and the other committee members are Patrizia Schiavottiello, Zarela Vargas, Lisa Ram, Philomena Clement, Kristy Bradnum, John Coleby, John Twomey and Pat Bentley. The Parish Council is chosen by the parish priest and acts as an advisory group.

Football is Coming Home…..to St Mary’s!

The table football game is now in the small hall for use after Sunday’s 10am Mass. Thank you to Braulio for putting it together. Please respect the game and try not to be off side.

Are you an adult thinking about becoming a Roman Catholic? Or are you a Catholic adult who has not made your First Holy Communion or Confirmation or just not made your Confirmation? If so, please get in touch with Fr Peter either by email, or a telephone call or after Mass. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults begins in September!
